I almost hate to ask. I was just reading a video magazine article the other night about this release of Pinnacle. I really don't know any other product in depth other than PE. The article had nice things to say about this Pinnacle release (surprise, surprise). Anyway, I'm still working with PE4 and like what it can do, but a silly as it may seem I find the dark background depressing. Even when I lighten it up, of course, then the white text becomes hard to see.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has used the latest Pinnacle release, how they hate/like it? If it can co-exist with PE on your computer, etc.

Not sure if it's a good or bad sign, but they've already released their first patch for it. And look at all the things it "fixes"! http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/48655.aspx

Did you see how many times AVCHD and HD are mentioned in that fix?

In fairness, Chuck, the update seems to be more about enabling features (like AVCHD) and less about fixing program problems.

I count 7 items with regard to AVCHD that say 'fixed' or 'improved' (which means fixed to me ), that's quite a list not to mention the HD fixes

Yeah, I saw some of that too. I'm not quite into the HD world right now so that didn't concern me. And, like Steve, the patches could be taken as good or bad. I couldn't get a true sense of the product through their forum. Not like you can here. They also don't have a trial download.

I don't think issuing an update so soon after a release is a bad thing at all. Photodex is very quick to update, the last being only 3 or 4 days apart. At worst it simply requires downloading and reinstalling... all very painless. So if Pinncacle, which I've never used, does this, I just see it as an admission that things need work and that they are not only willing to admit it, but also willing to try and fix it. We all realize that no software leaves the gate without some bugs, or many in some cases. That isn't the issue anymore. The issue is fixing them quickly.
I wish Adobe were as good about this with their Elements line. I'd feel a lot better if they issued a few releases every now and then. Actually, I'd feel a lot better if they issued even one... yes they did for 3, but that's about it as I know. Maybe we'll see something for 4 if in fact it needs it.

You make a very good point, JR. And I'm willing to give Studio the benefit of the doubt -- more or less. Remember that version 10 was version 10.8 within a year, with this whole page full of patches. http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/u ... =documentsWhether or not those patches were proactive improvements or (as historically is the case) continual attempts to fix the unfixable is hard to say. I stuck with Pinnacle Studio through its first three incarnations (versions 1, 2 and, uh, 7) before I finally threw in the towel. But the reviews are often good, since version 10. So it could well be a viable alternative.

I remember trying to jump in the video world about 6 years ago. I don't recall the package I used, but it couldn't sync the audio and video and after toying around with it I finally decided the technology or me weren't ready for home use. Since I've gone to PE, after overcoming an initial hurdle, it has been some nice outcomes. Sometimes I just want to try different things. It would be nice if they had a trial download. I know I did that with ProShow Gold and found, for whatever reason, I didn't get good results. Actually, seeing Chuck signature stats, I'm envious of a 4GB machine!

The computer I have isn't powerful enough to run 10.8, so no need go any further. The 9.4 version works much better. Still the installation and uninstallation of Pinnacle Studio and all the updates and the different 3-rd party vendor installations is just too much for me.

My side job has to pay for the car and my new computer In reality the car was under $5000 and has 172,000 miles on it but is in great shape, only 2 previous owners. It has been my absolute favorite since they came out in the USA '91. It is the same car as the Dodge Stealth and there is also a VR4 model which mine is not. It is one of those cars I thought I would never own, I thank God for all of my blessings
