Re: DVD Sales Down, Blu-ray Up 100% in a YearYeah, now overpriced 3D BDs have taken over the top of the exorbitant food chain. I wanted to get my wife a BD of The Polar Express and all they had at the local Best Buy was the 3D (and 2D) version - FIFTY BUCKS!

Re: DVD Sales Down, Blu-ray Up 100% in a Year3D... I am not going to say it is new technology that will go out of fashion in a year or two... but I have my doubts about it's longevity. But I believe a "good" movie should still be a "good" movie that captures your attention no matter what format it is filmed in or more critically viewed in... whether it is in "3D" or "black and white". This evening Avatar premiered on TV and I viewed it in 2D... I am sorry but I can not see what the big fuss was about the movie. Was it just the 3D that sold the movie???? A good 3D movie should also stand up to being watched in 2D, and in my opinion this one did not live up to expectations.
Re: DVD Sales Down, Blu-ray Up 100% in a YearI'm with you Paul. At the theatre on the big screen with 3D glasses, Avatar was quite an amazing spectacle as the live actors and the CGI was seamless. However, when we watched the DVD at home, we got bored. We haven't watched it again since. The story was not original (essentially, Disney's Pocahontas) and in the end, that's what drives the interest...as Steve always says.
