The beginning of the end for AMD?

Postby Steve Grisetti » Fri Feb 08, 2008 5:06 pm

As if Apple jumping aboard the Intel bandwagon wasn't enough of a boost -- now HP and Dell are scaling back on their AMD offerings. So it looks like Intel might soon be the sole player in the personal computer processor chip market.

Competition is always a good thing. But sometimes life is easier with a single good option.

Interesting, I'm a little curious what the REAL reason is. The discussion was a little vague. image013 I doubt the explanation is. img0384

AMD as we know it may have bit off more than it can chew, and there is a good chance it may cease to exist as a viable company.

The biggest mistake it has made recently was its buy and merger with ATI, which made video/grapics cards.

This gem of a move, saddled AMD with about $5 billion in debt, while chip prices were dropping due to stiff competition from Intel's Celeron product line.

One rumor floating about is that a good fit might be for Sun to merge with AMD.

In this particular case it would amount to that old saying ~ "Misery Loves Company"... :bom: :bom: :bom:
Intel i7Core Quad (i7-940) @ 2.93 Ghz, 12gig Mem 1066 MHz , 1gig Nvidia GeForce, 1TB HDD with Raid 0 (2x500), 3TB Storage
PE7, Vista-64, Sony DCR-DVD305 (MiniDVD)

If everything seems under control, then your just not going fast enough ~ Mario Andretti.
