I use AnyDVD, it works well. the main reason I use it is to remove the DRM copyright protection. I have a home theater PC for playing my High Def files but I also playback standard DVDs... software DVD players will not allow a commericial DVD to be played through the TVout (component video in my case) output of a graphics card. Using AnyDVD it strips off the protection "real time" allowing me to play DVDs. It also strips the region code and skips the copyright "blurb" at the beginning of the DVD that you normally have to sit through.
The latest version also strips out the copyright protection of HD DVDs so allowing you to play them as well. They are working on a BluRay update.
With the way things are going regarding copyright protection I am not sure how much longer they will be around.
