5 Million degrees

A tornado with a blazing temperature of 5 million degrees Fahrenheit spun above the surface of the sun for an amazing 40 hours from Sept. 1-3. The solar tornado was captured in time-lapse video by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory. SDO project scientist William Pesnell said that the material in the solar tornado spun at speeds of about 10,000 mph.

Now that is HOT

Trying to understand how hot 5 million degrees is, is like trying to understand the distances involved in outer space. It's just totally beyond me. :ha:

I don't know what is more impressive, the tornado on the Sun or that NASA photographed it.

Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space.

But seriously - there are some fantastic images coming at the moment. I liked this recent one from DSCOVR. Taken from a million miles away.

That is a great view Chris. A perspective that we never had before.

She must have been a super great grandmother to warrant that many greats, Dave!

"Ed Ames - sidekick for Daniel Boone"

You know, now that you mention it, I think you're right! And that means the same Ed Ames that taught Johnny Carson how to throw a hatchet. I do believe I was watching the night this show originally aired. Back when we all had rabbit ears!

If you're too young to remember...
