IMG_4060 28%.JPG I finally figured out how the pro's get the clarity in their shots. Here's one I had to resize to 28% to fit the upload requirements. I have many more I have to fix first. This is the Colorado River where it enters Lake Powell. Normally the river's a lot higher.

What I find most amazing about the American west is how BIG it is out there! Looks like you have clarity nailed on this one... so what's the secret???

Smart Sharpen. Photoshop has a filter for it and GIMP has a plug-in for it. You can also create your own filter and adjust it to any degree. It sharpens via unsharpen mask and gray scale using edges so that noise not on edges do not get amplified. I'm using GIMP and I'm using the plug-in for it. I'm also experimenting with other filters. It's amazing how that filter sharpens especially on portraits. I resharpened my moon shots and they look much, much better.

That is a really nice shot. The water level looks really low.

Neato torpedo, you nailed it! Also, XaraX will handle this as well.

high pass comparison.JPG Here's a comparison photo using the high pass filter in gimp. I also adjusted the white balance. I had to resize them so the details are not as sharp as in the full size version.

Here's another attempt using the special gaussian blur effect. I applied it five times and I think I over did it. IMG_3518 five special gaussian blur 90%.JPG
