Ich bin eine Frankfurter

Postby Steve Grisetti » Sat Jun 15, 2013 7:59 am

I've been blessed with the opportunity to go to Wiessbaden and Frankfurt at the end of July.

Are there any members of our Muvipix community in that area who would like to get together while I'm there?

Well Steve you are lucky that you do not have to contend with "Tea Time" but make sure that you use a tripod for your camera ...... all that oktober fest beer ::C is bound to make the camera wobbly. lol

Well, all I can say is, "Ich bin eine krankenkopf." Steve I saw Wiesbaden in 1956 when in the service..would dearly like to go back. Spent most of my time in Stuttgart at 7th Army Hq. If you want to have a real tasty case of heartburn there used to be street vendors selling little Wursts and hard buns with 3 kinds of mustard. I would scarf those suckers up..and pay the price later. :)

If anybody is interested, you can follow my blog while I'm here.

My brother-in-law and his wife flew me here to watch their new puppy, Charlotte, while they're on vacation. So it's not a huge adventure yet. But it still could be.

The blog is just my day to day updates for them.

Steve, I love your blog so far :TU:
It is making me homesick. Should you venture out to Mannheim, make sure to take a little sidetrip and visit Heidelberg. It is just around the corner so to say. I lived there for 16 years before I moved to San Diego. Heidelberg is much nicer than Mannheim!
Charlotte is adorable and it looks like you will have a great time with her.

I would have posted a comment to your blog, but could not figure out how :-k

Yes Steve, great blog. Looks like a good dog also. gpecht has a good recommendation about visiting Heidelberg. I remember that there is a castle there to visit and a big collage.

I too have heard wonderful things about Heidelberg! In fact, my brother-in-law and his wife got married in the castle there!

I don't know if I'll get the chance to do much traveling. I don't have a car and I'd prefer not to drive anyway, and this puppy is still so young that I'm not sure howfar from home we dare to venture.

So far pretty much the other part of the country I've seen in the 2 blocks between this apartment and the park. Though I definitely plan to climb the hill up to the Neroberg winery first chance I get!

Wonderful blog Steve! What a great adventure for you. Living in an apartment helps submerse you into the area instead of a hotel or tourist zone. And you have the beautiful dog to break the ice.

Thanks, Buddy! The blog and all of my e-mails home have certainly helped keep me sane here. The people are very nice -- but I do miss normal, bland, English conversation.

Steve, if you like Rollmops, you should also try Matjesfilets. This is a different variation of marinated herring, usually in a cream and onion sauce served with Bratkartoffeln. Each region of Germany has its own variation of the dish. I think it originated in the Netherlands.
