RAM adding, and not sure....the best way to approach it. I currently have 8 gigs and want to move my max of 16. Need an opinion, should I seek 4X4 or 2X8. I'm not sure it makes a difference or not. I seem to remember that once upon a time I could only use two slots. But even the case I would like to do it right the first time. Your thoughts and my thanks.

Re: RAM adding, and not sure..What is your current configuration? 2 chips of 4 gig or 4 chips of 2 gig?

Re: RAM adding, and not sure..What motherboard model?
Re: RAM adding, and not sure..I have, currently, two sticks of 4Gigs and the MB is an ASUS M4A88T-M with an AMD Phenom(TM) 11x4 B55 Processor. I'd love to get a new PC but can't spring. Thanks for getting back to me guys,

Re: RAM adding, and not sure..That motherboard has 4 DDR3 memory slots so you can add two more 4 gig memory DIMMS for a total of 16 gig.
You can find out which DIMMS you are currently have installed in each slot by using a free for personal use utility rammon. This utility reads the Serial Presence Detect (SPD) data from the RAM modules which includes the DIMM type (should be DDR3), speed, size, the manufacturer name, and module part number. It will show a lot more info, but with the manufacturer name and model part number you should be able to buy matching ram modules. Leave your existing ram in place and insert the new modules in the remaining slots.
Re: RAM adding, and not sure..Somewhere like Crucial (https://www.crucial.com/) who are the commercial arm of Micron have a utility that detects what you have and suggests RAM for you. If you use their utility they guarantee that the RAM will be compatible which should take any guesswork away.
