Plenty of stuff on Google for read errors on bootrec but my read error isn't anything to do with booting. I am trying to migrate the contents of a dying HDD to a new PC for a friend but I keep getting this error. The Surface Test in Partition Wizard confirms that a block has a read error. I have tried chkdsk with /f /r parameters but the error persists. So it is either going to be a loss of some data or one of you knows a remedy. I have my fingers crossed!!

Hi John,
Do you have the MiniTool Partition Wizard? The Professional paid version? That has saved many files for me over the years even when I thought they were lost forever.

Having tried all sorts of things I finally had to admit defeat, Chuck. Ended upwith having to do a tedious re-install.
