My computer is not creating System Restore Points anymore

My computer is not creating System Restore Points anymoreI'm having this problem with the desktop in my signature. I had to reinstall Windows on that machine recently. I did a non-destructive reinstall, which kept all my installed programs unchanged. Yesterday I noticed it does not create system restore points anymore. When I try to create a manual restore point it gets stuck in "Creating Restore Point" and nothing is being created. If I try to open a previous restore point I get a message that no restore points exist. All the stuff I found through Google did not work. I'm out of ideas...

Re: My computer is not creating System Restore Points anymorFirst, check and see if you have allocated enough hard drive space for System Restore (from the System Protection tab of System Properties, click Configure).
If all is OK there, try disabling System Restore and restart the computer. Enable System Restore and restart again. Then try to create a Restore Point.

I have been wondering about that, Bob. It is set to 4% of the disk space, ruffly 10gb since my drive is 250gb. How much should it be? I will try your other suggestion later when I get back. Exactly what I would have recommended. Windows 7 was notorious for having System Restore quit working. Don't know if it carried over to Win 8. Be yourself; everyone else is taken.

Re: My computer is not creating System Restore Points anymorSorry guys, this did not change anything.

Re: My computer is not creating System Restore Points anymorDon't feel bad. The last time I tried to do a 'restore' because of a install glitch of some software, I got this message: "Unable to do a restore"
So there can be problems on both ends. Setting a restore point or trying to do a restore.
Re: My computer is not creating System Restore Points anymorTreeTops, try to restore in Safe Mode. That usually works.
But, good news! I solved my problem. I did some more searching on the internet and someone mentioned XFastUSB. This is a utility to speed up usb devices like external harddrives. AsRock, the manufacturer of my mb provided that as a download. I had just recently installed that. After uninstalling this utility everything works again.
