I first heard about Poggioreale about three years ago but never got around to visiting. Poggioreale is about one hour's drive from where I live here in Carini so, in July this year, I set off. One learns from one's mistakes and, as these things tend to come in threes, here are my three mistakes for that trip. Firstly, so that I could "travel light" I took my smallest camera which records in SD. That was mistake number one. Mistake number two was not checking the camera settings so the camera was set to record in 4:3 format. The third mistake was not taking either a monopod or a tripod. So plan 'B' is to return there next Spring when I will be better prepared. That better preparation will help but the main benefit will be because I will know what to expect and so will, hopefully, make a better job of it. Meanwhile here is Poggioreale. http://muvipix.com/cpg/albums/userpics/10012/Poggioreale.wmv

Well, at least you've got an excuse to re-visit Sicily, John!
Regardless, you got some pretty good footage. Ought to look even better when you shoot it in high-def!

John, I enjoyed learning about the history of the towns. It must be strange to walk thru the abandoned towns and think about that it once was thriving.

I found it quite sad. So many lives changed; some lives ruined with the loss of family members; all of the towns now deserted; history lost. Here is a link to what happened to the ruins of Gibellina:- http://www.gibellina.siciliana.it/

Wow, what a story; what a shame. Very nicely told John. The editing added to the drama, and the music was spot on.
