Cleaning scanner glass and film

Postby RJ Johnston » Sat Jun 30, 2012 6:29 am

Have you seen the ads for that "As Seen on TV" the Sticky Buddy gadget? It's a hand-held roller with a sticky surface for picking up debris. You can wash it off and use it over. I decided to try it on my Epson scanner glass surface, and then I tried it on a positive film that I was going to scan. It did an excellent job. Every spec of dust was gone. My original intention was to use the roller to pick up dead flying insects off the outside walls, which it did quite handily until the roller quickly filled up with wings and legs and stuff. After that I used a broom. Other people I know would have used a hose to wash the bugs off the walls.

By the way, there was no mention on the box of "clean scanner glass" and "film" for recommended uses. It's try at your own risk.

I may buy another one of those gadgets to use just for dust on film and scanner glass. I'll use the other roller for the more disgusting debris.

I bought a new Sticky Buddy and tried using it on the scanner glass, but a new one has too much sticky, I could barely roll it on the glass. It's gonna have to be used on something else a few times first to lessen the stickiness.
