New video card

Postby Clayton » Wed Apr 11, 2012 2:28 pm

Okay I am going to update my video card for one approved by adobe PS http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/tes ... p-cs5.html Does anyone have a preferred suggestion for one. I assume there would be no problem with my current motherboard. :-8

Thanks Chuck, the cheaper one will probably meet my needs, I am not a gamer. Just as long as it meets adobe specs, but I will look at the second one also. Depends on how the MB/CPU I select integrates with it.

The tested video card list you linked to is for Photoshop CS5, not Premiere Pro CS5. Premiere Pro has different requirements. If you want to use the Mercury Playback engine for GPU accelleration, you need a CUDA based card from NVIDIA. If you use a Radeon card, you will only be able to use software rendering. Here's a link to the specs: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/system-requirements-premiere-pro.html. Get one with at least 1GB video ram.

Thanks Bob, wasn't thinking about the Cuda engine and video rendering. I am happy with my setup for now even without that :)

I have a GTX470 with PPro CS5.5 and it works 10 times faster with CUDA accelerated effects than without CUDA.

Looks like a great choice Clayton and Peru give it a great review.
I might have to look into that one myself, but then I would need to upgrade to CS5.5 or CS6 too.

I have a GTX 470 also. I think Paul does too. And, yes, it works great with Photoshop.

Well bummer, it is out of stock. I looked at some similar products with similar specs, but they are not on the adobe list. Is the adobe list mean these have been tested, but not necessarily the only ones that wiill work? The one I was looking at was about $220, the next ones up (gtx 570 series) run around $300. There are some 480 series that are similarly priced but not on adobes list.
