Ever heard of wmvHD

Postby sidd finch » Wed Jun 13, 2007 4:46 pm

I found a couple of references to it as a format to use until the whole HDDVD vs BluRay thing is worked out. It is laptop & std DVD5 friendly.

Lends itself well for PC playback or hooking a laptop to a HDTV and playing movies that way.

I’m not sure how to render out of Premiere though or even if you can.

Has anybody heard of this and can it be done????

I've heard of WMV for HD. You can export to that format in Premiere Elements 3. It's under Windows Media.... That's all I know Sidd.

The good thing about WMV HD is that you can burn the HD file to a DVD, add a menu and play back the high definition (1280x720) DVD in Windows and navigate through the DVD as you would on your set top DVD player. You pop the DVD in your DVD drive and MediaPlayer will automatically start it at the menu. Plus you can get over an hour of high definition on a DVD.

I use them quite a bit for distributing high definition DVDs to family so they can play them back with a menu in high definition on there computer. PE3 can not make WMV HD DVDs though... I use Magix MovieEdit Pro.

But for viewing on a HDTV I burn HD-DVD to standard DVDs and play them back via a HD Software DVD player (PowerDVD 7.3 HD DVD) via the HD Component Video out of my computer.

Hi Robert, good find. I found this quote amusing: "The following steps show how to create a Windows Media® High Definition Video (WMV HD) DVD ROM. This process can take several weeks, ... "

Think I'll stick with MovieEdit Pro.

I don't remember the quote I saw, but it was something like "burned DVD's may not play back reliably and to use the master method."

I requested the WVM HD DVD sample code disc. I'll see how that goes.

My email to WMVHDDVD@microsoft.com timed-out. I guess that means the sample disc is no longer available.
