Secret watermark/info for photos

Postby Bruce » Mon Jun 23, 2008 1:53 pm

Does anyone know of a program that works with Photoshop or a standalone program that will insert a watermark (not so much) or identifying info into a photo? This way the photo can be claimed as ones own picture.

What you are looking for is called steganograpy.

Photoshop (but not Elements) comes with a digimarc plugin to do this but you need to buy an annual licence for a unique identifier. Can get expensive if you use it on a lot of photos because it's quantity based. Digimarc has a tracking service to help you detect use of your photos on web sites. There are other tools to do steganograpy. Do a google search on steganography tools. I don't use steganography so I can't recommend any specific tool.

One thing you need to remember is that if someone were to modify the photo, the hidden data could become partially or total destroyed depending on what they did. Visual watermarking is probably better at preventing theft of your images if posted on the Internet.

I've got Snag-it 7.0 and it has a watermark effect that is quite adjustable and can over lay or under-lay.
The sample is the under-lay effect.
Also you can use your own choice of picture or graphic for water mark.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Thanks
Richard
