'Vintage' Digital Cameras

Postby ed » Wed Sep 14, 2022 8:53 am

This post is for Sidd, because I know how much he appreciates old digital technology :-D

I follow quite a few young people on YouTube starting the journey into film photography. I enjoy watching them learn from the same mistakes I made back in the day. Lately there is a trend of them using old digital cameras, mostly Sony Cyber-Shot 3.3 Mega Pixel cameras, to get that 'old school' look. Ha ha!.

I went through my old photography box and found my Canon Powershot S500, with a whopping 5 Mega Pixels, charged up the battery and took it out last weekend to a nearby town and the neighborhood. Still works great, I remember spending a bit of coin on this camera. I think in perfect light and the best settings you could get an 8x10 print that looks good. Fit's in your jacket pocket too.

Here's some examples of what I shot, the last photo is the deer that has apparently fallen in love with me:

Ed love it cool video. I am surprised the battery still works some of my old cameras battery's just do not work anymore. I have the Sony DSC-S85 and thought at the time 4 megapixels was huge. never gonna go bigger. :gl:

But ed you inspired me to se if I can get my 1.3 mega pixel batman camera going.

That’s really unfortunate Sid. I was looking forward to your artistic take with the images from the Batman camera.

Goodwill got me again! I picked this up for $15, looks like it was never used. Had an SD card and battery (I have a universal Canon charger). I plan to take it downtown (Washington DC) when the weather gets better and will post a review and slide show. It's from 2010, so I'm getting more modern Sidd.

2010

Ed I am flabbergasted. I always thought you were the Amish of camera gear. :hyst: I look forward to seeing some of your upcoming work. DC would be a great subject matter.
