Munk Miikael's gift

Postby Steve Grisetti » Wed Jun 30, 2021 8:45 am

If you're a regular on our forums, you may be aware of one of our most unusual community members, Munk Miikael, a monk who lives in the mountains of Norway.

Miikael recently sent me a gift that I had to share with you all. The packet he sent me included a number of photographs of himself and the monastery grounds. It also included a beautiful devotional, a booklet made of hand-made stationery and hand-printed with stories and prayers.

This is truly a unique gift, Miikael. And I will long treasure it.

That is very kind of him. And a nice keepsake to have too.

I am glad you liked it! The booklet is handmade by our friends in the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in Tallinn Old Town, Estonia. It is made out of old clothes using a medieval method and paintings by Anatoli Ljutjuk, our old friend.

Here you can see the similar process of the making of the Poetic Red Book of Endangered Species:

Our Ukrainian friends visit the monastery often and Anatoli says he got all his artistical inspirations from Hylland munkelyd and Father Robert.
