Olympus goes the way of the dinosaurs

Another sad technology milestone, and another brand to add to the dustbin.

I think that was a good decision by Olympus. My next digital camera would not have been an Olympus, anyway.

My first (and only) SLR was an olympus OM-1 with a number of Zuico lenes. I still have it but haven't used it in many years. Sold all of my photo stuff (Durst 35mm colour enlarger, trays, chemical storage bottles...etc.) around twelve years ago to a photography student. (Digital) still photography so much easier now.

I tend to use my Samsung smartphone for video/photography these days. My aged Sony HVR-A1 hasn't been out of my camera bag for years. ..the relentless onward march of technology.

I have not used my Sony HC1 in years to record. It is now relegated to being a battery charger. My Newer LED light is compatible with the Sony battery so while the batter has a new life powering the light the camcorder just sits and charges. Makes me sad every time I charge. I was so excited to get that camera.

This makes me sad. I have an Olympus Trip 35 camera that I still use all of the time. Mine was manufactured in 1978. Small and light, looks good, doesn't need a battery, and has a good lens. Great for street photography because it has zone focus and is quiet.

Yeah, not the greatest of all time photos Sidd, but it shows what the camera can do. Indoors incident light. It only has two shutter speeds, 30 nd 200, and is a total point and shoot - you control nothing other then if the meter can't read it won't let you take a photo. It's sad to see a company that could figure this out 40+ years ago fade away.
