Videos for Cats to Watch

Postby sidd finch » Fri Apr 03, 2020 8:41 pm

Well, turned out to be a super nice day so I was inspired to make my version of "Videos for Cats to Watch"

Looks like a beautiful spring day there in northern California, Sidd. But I can definitely see this video driving cats crazy!

Well not such a sunny morning but I tried to record with a Sony RX0 II and Rode video mic in 4k. I think the image is much more crisp.

The volume III looks the sharpest of all, and volume II is sharper than volume I. Maybe just by chance the cameras had a different focal point? In macro mode, are the cameras auto-focus or fixed focus or what? Maybe the lens on the GoPro has a different height than the Sony. Did you have to tilt the cameras?

Are those seeds good to eat?

So many questions.

Yes the GoPro had a different height (based on the stand) than the Sony.

1. Video 1 was GoPro with 52MM macro lens shot in 2.7k 60fps in linear mode. GoPro audio

2. Video 2 was Sony RX0 II with same 52MM macro lens in 4k 30fps. Rode video mic audio

3. Video 3 was Sony RX0 II with no macro lens in 4k 30fps. Rode video mice audio

The Sony does not have auto focus so I think it focused to the edge of the birdseed. Next time I will just place my had where the birds eat from so the camera will focus when the birds land to eat. Also next time I will use a dead cat on the rode mic.

not sure about eating the seed. You might break your teeth.

That is pretty cool. Where we live we do not have that big of a variety of birds that come to visit but for me it is a pretty cool way to capture some footage. I use a ladder and a plank and some birdseed...

We do seem to have a large crow population so that might keep some of the birds away.

Here is one I thought was kind of funny. The bird kept talking to the camera the whole time it was eating.

The last one was epic. From the Birds Gone Wild series? A friend has 2 cats that watch birds on their large screen Tv. Their pup likes animal shows. Pretty funny to see them watching the Tv. It sits about 2 feet from the floor for their maximum viewing.
