APE 2019 Backward Compatibility

Specific to Premiere Elements version 2019

APE 2019 Backward Compatibility

Postby Plenihan » Fri Jun 21, 2019 7:50 pm

I lost my copy of APE 2018 in a recent hard drive crash. When things were up and running I up graded APE 2019. Well I can’t open any of my old files of TV shows. Is it true that 2019 is not backward compatible? So, now I have to buy and old version of APE to be able to read my archives. Does this really make sense?
Cheers! Phil

Officially, Premiere Elements is not backward compatible -- though sometimes it works. I've been able to open version 2018 projects in version 2019. But because it doesn't always work, we always recommend making a copy of any old project file before you try to open it with a newer version of the program. Just in case.

If you bought and registered version 2018, you can easily reinstall it. You can download it from here.

And you can recover your serial number by logging in at Adobe.com and clicking the Manage Account button. On the page that opens, click the Plans tab at the top of the screen. And, on the page that opens, click My Products. The serial numbers for all of your registered products will appear.

Thank you. I have been using APE since version 4 and I never ran into this. Oh well, I'll get a copy of APE 2018.

Cheers! Phil
