I'll try it. It sounds like learning the way Basic 3D works is what I need.

It's not perfect but in 30-40 minutes I got it. Thanks!
(I guess there isn't a way to upload the 4 second MP4 clip?)

You could upload a clip to Vimeo which is free (but has more facilities if you subscribe).

Glad you got it, Bob.

For just the simple case of opening the cover to reveal the double album page, it is really just a matter of using the Basic 3D effect. The devil is in the details though. There is a bit of preparation needed. I'll go ahead and post my comments though in case someone else wants to do something similar.

The natural pivot for the double album page is in the middle of the album (where the binder rings are located). To prepare the photo, I straightened the photos so that the pivot axis is up and down and not slanted. I then centered the photo of the album pages horizontally in the photo. I also removed the background so it wouldn't be part of the swivel and be disconcerting. I saved the photo as a png file (to preserve transparency). I saved it three times. First, as a full sized image (so I could zoom into it later, If you won't be doing that the full size file isn't needed). Second, I scaled the image down to fit the video frame. Then, I deleted the right side page and saved as a png file containing only the left page. Then, undid the delete and then deleted the left side and saved that as a png.

The album cover needs to pivot about the left edge. I scaled the cover down to match the size of the open album pages and then aligned the left edge of the cover in the center of the photo so it would swivel about the same axis as the album page. The cover was slightly narrower than the album page it had to cover up, so I stretched the image horizontally slightly to make it just long enough to cover the page. I deleted the background, scaled to fit the video frame and saved as a png.

All that remained was to assemble the sequence on the timeline. I needed three video tracks. The bottom track for a background to replace the one I removed from the original photos. The second track was for the right hand album page that would be uncovered as the album page opened. If you wanted to use the full sized photo after the open effect to you could zoom into it, this is where it would go -- scale it to match the turn sequence size initially. The third track was for the swiveling album cover and the left hand album page. This is what it looks like:

album_timeline.JPG

Note: choose the time you want for the open and size the two png files accordingly. I wanted 5 seconds total, so I made each 2.5 second long. The right side page on track two should be sized to match the sequence.

Apply the Basic 3D effect to both the image on track 3. Key frame the cover so it has a swivel value of 0 at the beginning of the clip and a value of 90 at the end. Key frame the left page so that it has a swivel of -90 at the beginning and 0 at the end. Assuming everything went as planned, it will look like this:

Thanks, Bob. Yours is better than what I completed. I didn't do any editing in Photoshop so I may go back and follow your suggestions to get better results. I used the "Crop" tool in PRE 2018 on the cover and pages to get my results. I'm new to this forum and haven't yet figured out how to upload my video or I'd show you my 4 second version.

I'm not sure this is the correct way to add the vimeo file but here's how my version turned out:

That is a good way to post a link.

Bob's version looks a lot more natural.
Note: There are too many Bobs in this thread. I'm also Bob.

@ Bob the expert:
How did you get the page to slide around the binder rings so naturally?

It's an illusion, the crop is a straight line. As the page swivels from -90 to 0 degrees, the perspective foreshortening decreases. Possibly because we are so familiar with how pages in a ringed binder slide, our brain interprets this, not as a change in foreshortening, but as a sliding of the page over the ring. The illusion works best if the axis of rotation is centered on the rings.

OK - I've been thinking about this for a while and this post prompted me to action. :-D It's been a long time since I first did something like this and the free tools available have got much better. I've had a go in Fusion 9 and I'm sure you could do something similar in Blender and/or another package.
