RED teaming with Foxconn on smaller, cheaper 8K cameras

RED teaming with Foxconn on smaller, cheaper 8K cameras

Postby sidd finch » Tue Feb 13, 2018 11:58 am

Foxconn plans to build smaller, cheaper 8K cameras in collaboration with cinema company RED, "We will make cameras that will shoot professional-quality films in 8K resolution but at only a third of current prices and a third of current camera sizes," said CEO Terry Gou. RED currently has several 8K models, including the 3.35 pound, $30,000 Epic-W 8K. That means Foxconn could conceivably produce an 8K camera that costs around $10,000 and weights just over a pound -- less than many DSLRs.

The news is part of a broader Foxconn effort to branch out from smartphones, The company recently purchased Sharp, and plans to drastically ramp up its production of displays, Sharp controls important chip technologies for various image sensors that go into digital cameras and televisions.

But then you'd need another 10K to drop on a new computer to edit the media.

...and then there's the cost of that SSD array that you will need to store all of that 8k data whilst you edit it.

Suddenly my "inexpensive" 10k investment has now ballooned up to 25k.... Ouch

And I only wanted to output to 1080p so the video would look clearer...
