Oh Boy Now..Display Issues

Postby BuddyB » Tue Nov 28, 2017 10:32 am

I'm just beginning to get back into things, went to be with one of our daughters, and when I returned the computer was kind of messed up. I can't remember if there was a Win10/64 upgrade just as we were getting ready to leave, or not; or someone with access to the house turned the computer on (and I did turn it off) and messed something up or what. The computer operates fine, it's the viewing that is all screwy. Everything is enlarged and wider than it is tall. In other words all things, whether it be a browser (Firefox) or my vector drawing program; anything else for that matter is not proportionate or sized properly. I've gone into every place I could to make what might be appropriate changes, but Nada. I'm missing something somewhere. If anyone has an idea I would be most grateful, thanks.

Buddy, If you right click on the computer screen a menu will pop up. You can scroll down and select screen resolution. A menu will display the current resolution. You can adjust the resolution to the size that works best for your needs.

And if Sidd's solution doesn't do it, you may need to update or roll back your video driver directly from the video card manufacturer's site.

Thanks Sidd and Peru. I've been in that section, have tried, probably, all the dimensions mentioned and the one recommended. I've tried fit, stretch and pretty much all the variations; no fortune. I think I'll give the Display section one more shot, and if I can't get anything to change then I will attempt your suggestion Peru. Appreciate you guys.

Buddy place the curser on the window you want to change then hold down the control key and use the scroll wheel. This might help to adjust the size too.

Interesting. I just had a client call last night with the exact same issue - right after an update. I also suspect that Windows installed an inappropriate driver, but I haven’t seen the machine yet. Will let you know if I find out anything.

Thanks all. I'm still working on the problem. Will have to wait 'til day after tomorrow to continue; am going into the hospital for an overnight procedure. They should put me on the Board of Directors..spend more time there than at home. :-D The machine tells me, in the Device Manager, that my video driver is the one I should have, and that it is functioning properly. So, could there be another driver somewhere (and that doesn't make sense to me) that could be affecting my system that way. WOW, this blows my mind. I presume there's a possibility I may need to replace the built-in videol card as I did with audio. There is a solution..and it will be found. Thanks guys.

Good luck with your procedure Buddy. I heard back from my client a few minutes ago and he’s decided he doesn’t want to pursue it right now. I told him that I need to sit down with it to see what’s going on. I think he was expecting me to solve it over the phone without a house call.

I hope all goes well for you.

Don't believe Device Manager. Seriously. It is not always correct with regard to that information. I would go directly to the video card manufacturer's site if you need to try different drivers, whether updating or rolling back.

Thanks Peru; will do that sometime today, right now I'm still trying to recover/overcome the effects of the procedure. I will keep you posted on any results. Thanks again all. It's weird, even the ID pics here are wider than tall and normally are square.

Well I did the Rollback and now the system seems to be appearing normal. The pics here are back to "square" ..YAY! And a big thanks for you being who you are. I'd never thought of Rollback, or anything else if it hadn't been for y'all (Pardon my Southern).

I’m glad it’s working but...
If this happened because of a Windows 10 update Windows will just install that update again. I hope that’s not the case.

Dave you were right, it happened again! With the recent upgrade my video driver is messed up again! Kinda' makes me wish I were on a Mac. However, I can't afford the software, so that's a moot point. Device Mgr. will not even allow the "Rollback." It's been so long I've forgotten how to put the computer back to an earlier time; will figure that out I'm sure. Just wanted to keep all updated on this irritant.
