Colors of Spring 2015

Postby Ron Hunter » Thu May 14, 2015 8:34 pm

I shot some footage of flowers around our house with my GH4 and Konova slider. Let me know what you think of this:

Very pretty, Ron. What are the purple flowers at the end?

Are/were these flowers all in bloom at the same time? Are they in bloom now? Most of these are long past here and I'm not all that far south of you. We had a late freeze this year and ZERO azalea blossoms for the first time in over 25 years. I was all set for some GoPro macro shots. (crying smilie here)

Your garden is very well tended! Mine needs another weeding. As usual! With our long lasting and cool spring my roses began with a glorious show. I probably had over 300 blossoms at one point. Too many to get good photos of before they all wilted, although I am very pleased with a couple of this years' roses still lifes for my classes.

I don't know if you desire a critique of your video - but on the off chance you do - I think it is all well done, but I'd prefer to see a few more still shots placed here and there to alternate the pace and give the viewer a chance to rest their gaze from time to time.

Lovely filming & colors Ron. I was wondering about your growing zone too. Things are slowing blooming around here. The neighbor has some very nice irises.

Thanks everyone, and thanks Patrice for your suggestions to add still photos to give the viewer time to "rest" their eyes. (I absolutely want a critique!!) I agree with you, there is a lot of movement in there and lingering on some stills would be a good change. I also think some dissolve transitions would have been good, after watching it a time or two I think some of the cuts are just too abrupt.

And no, not all of these plants were blooming at the same time. I've been accumulating clips for weeks. I have no idea about the purple flower at the end, I just thought it looked good. ;)

I like this! You certainly have a lot of flowers...I usually end up with a lot of weeds... :(

It was very well done - I especially like the slowwwwww slides.

Keep 'em coming!

Very enjoyable! Each spring I want to do something like this, but then get involved with other things. Great landscaping you have there Ron!

If a critique is requested, Ron,
I see a totally personal touch in this video from you,
it is the first I perceive it as completely defined.
You have made every sequence and every flower obey to a musical phrase or a rhythm
with a moving taste.

I think (sorry) that still photos would have interrupted the mosaic,
although they would be as much poetic.

I feel like you are on your own way in poetry.

I think the purple flower at the end is from the eastern redbud tree (??)

I really enjoyed this video Ron. You did a great job in capturing so much spring color. It was beautiful. I really liked your slider shots. My only comment would be to slow them down a bit. But that is a very minor critique. Your slider shots made me realize how prevalent these shots have become. Especially in capturing nature. Not sure if it was on purpose but the change from color to color was pretty nice too. Your video has inspired me. We have a heritage rose garden that is blooming that I should try to capture. Keep up the good work.

That should be a Muvipix exposition: Spring from where you live.... :) (not a contest but more of a pot-luck)

Excellent job. Sidd

Thanks everyone! Sidd I agree with you, I should slow down the slider shots and will try to do that next time. I've actually toyed with the idea of getting a motor for the slider to make the movements more controlled.
