Specific to Premiere Elements Version 12.

I am trying to create a video from raw data that has files with extension .mod. I believe from a JVC video cam. Are there any suggestions how I might convert these .mod files to enable me to use PRE 12 to create a video. I have looked around for ideas but have only come up with one that just suggests I change the .mod extension to .mpg. Not sure whether this is possible with satisfactory results. Any suggestions please Robbie

Make a copy, rename the copy, and try it. It should work.

Thanks Peru. I take it that you mean rename the file extension? Not to worried which file extension to use, mpg or mov, as I can use ISkysoft Converter to convert mpg to mov. Which extension would be best in your opinion Robbie [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

MOD is fully compliant with the DVD video standard, MPEG-2. Rename it from .mod to .mpg. No conversion necessary.

The OP probably has the .mod files of the JVC/Panasonic/Canon SD camcorder models of a few years ago. You'll have a MOD file and it should have a corresponding MOI file with the widescreen information inside. I used (and still do when needed) the free SDcopy with no problems. "This utility copies MOD files from the camera, giving them more conventional MPG extension, and, more importantly, sets "widescreen" flag in the file header." You might want to read this article http://createvideonotebook.blogspot.fi/ ... o-mpg.htmlIt includes a working link to download SDcopy (in "prior download link").

If the image appears squished, there is still no need to use a separate program. Premiere Elements can conform the video to use the proper pixel aspect ratio. In Expert view, click Project Assets and select the source clip. Choose File > Interpret Footage. In the Pixel Aspect Ratio section, select the proper pixel aspect ratio. (e.g. ntsc widescreen pixel aspect ratio 1.2 if it's squished widthwise). It's best if you do this before you put it on the timeline to avoid setting up the project properties incorrectly.

Thanks to you both for your further advice regarding the converting of mod to mpg extensions. I have managed to just change the file extension to .mpg and then, because I use Imac, converting this .mpg file to .muv, which is recommended when using Imac. It seems to work fine. And yes Bob, it was squished but I realised that when importing into Pre 12, it corrected this squirmish to normal picture. Again thanks to you both for your support and long may Muvipix be around. Robbie
