Logitech C920 webcam for recording billiards?

Postby pip9ball » Tue Sep 23, 2014 2:12 pm

Hello All,

First time poster here, lots of great information! Hoping to get some advice on how to improve the quality of my videos. I just recently received a Logitech C920 Webcam as a gift and decided I would hook this up and try to record some pool matches. Overall the quality is pretty good, however I'm having a difficult time with lighting. The area on the table directly beneath the table light is washed out (white crush?).

Currently the camera is mounted to a tripod at about 4 feet high. Would raising the height of the camera above the light source help with this? Or is this just a limitation with the camera itself?

Thanks,

Phil

Welcome to Muvipix, Phil! I'm sure we'll be able to help you out.

In fact, you may want to check out Sidd's pool video, which he shot with a GoPro. I'm sure he can give you some advice.

You might try to raise the camera a bit higher to look down on the table. Also , these types of cameras are not the best in low light. I am not sure of the focus but it might be better suited for closer proximity.

Sidd

FYI the video was not mine (pool table) GoPro...I am just an enthusiast.

It would also help if you could raise the level of lighting in the rest of the room. That will help the web cam balance the differences in brightness in the scene and reduce the intensity of the hot spot. You should also experiment with the web cam controls in your computer. Logitech provides camera controller software that will allow you to specify auto or manual control of the exposure, brightness, and contrast. Try placing those in manual mode and adjust the sliders to see if you can reduce or eliminate the hotspot.
