Ugh, another piece of impossible Malware

Postby BuddyB » Wed May 21, 2014 2:38 pm

LinkShare from LinkuryInc.com. It will not delete from Programs and Features, saying it is on a network resource that is unavailable. There's a link at the bottom of the requester and there I went. I deleted everything I saw related to QuckShare, but even after boot I could not get the Programs and Features file to go away. That leads me to believe at least something related is still hiding somewhere. I researched Google and nada. It said Ansi uninstall would do it..no better than Windows. It said Malwarebytes would do it..not so. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

First stop would be Malware Bytes.

For best results, boot into Safe Mode before you run the scan.

Hopefully that will fix it. Otherwise, things get a bit more drastic.

Try Revouninstaller:

Remember to delete only the bold items.

Alternatively, use the Uninstall Tool in CCleaner.

If no luck, try AdwCleaner:

:ha: I'm one confused puppy. I finally got around to running Malwarebytes and AVG in SafeMode. This sucker is hiding somewhere; does not make sense that I could not make it go away. I'm including a screenshot of what I get in Programs and Features. Also, search finds nothing at all..bizarre!

Try this:

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking. Download and install SuperAntiSpyware free edition but don't run it yet. You've already got Malwarebytes installed.

http://www.superantispyware.com/

Download the RKill executable:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/

Run RKill. There's no installation. It may take a few minutes to complete. If it appears to hang, just wait it out. I've never seen it take more than 5 minutes.

Without rebooting, run SuperAntiSpyware in full scan mode and let it remove anything that it finds. Run Malwarebytes in full scan mode and do the same. If either program wants you to reboot, reboot into Safe Mode again. Run RKill again if you had to reboot.

Repeat with SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes until both report nothing.

I've had good luck with this method for most infections. If this doesn't solve the issue we'll go from there. I know Chuck has done a lot of this too, so maybe he'll weigh in.
Be yourself; everyone else is taken.
