Trick 45; in vol 11. Color fill in v12

Postby mikecox » Mon Apr 21, 2014 12:44 pm

I am using PrE 12 and trying to “add a moving line to a map”; Trick 45 in “Cool Tricks and Hot Tips for PrE11”.

I have a project set up. My clips are in place and have a running time of 3 minutes. They goal is to move the transition from right to left; starting with a very small crop and ending with no crop.

My keyframes are setup; one at the start and one at the end, and the animation is working, but there are two problems.

The Clip Effects in v12 has a Fill option, which doesn’t appear to have a “no fill” exception. As a consequence the clip in Video 1 cannot be seen.

Also, I’ve rendered the clip; which takes a very long 3 minutes, but the effect still moves in 4 second steps, instead of smoothly.

Hi Mike,

Instead of the Clip effect, use the Crop effect. Crop will give you the transparency you want.

I don't know why you're having problems with the smoothness. :conf: If you only have keyframes at the beginning and the end, it should transition smoothly.

Try outputting the video using Publish & Share/Computer/AVCHD with the YouTube HD preset. See if it plays smoothly.

Dah! Thanks for not pointing out the obvious.

I exported the clip to an AVI and when I played it back it had an extreme case of the jitters; not only did the line not move smoothly, it's movement seemed to effect the entire video.

Have you tried exporting it as an AVCHD, as I suggested, Mike?

AVIs can sometimes look jittery when played on a computer because they are often interlaced video.

No, I tried the AVI file first. I have a lot of AVI files on my system; concerted with PrE, and they all run smoothly.

I have since converted this project to AVCHD and it ran smoothing in that format.
