A place to introduce and tell a little about yourself.

Hey, everyone. Kent here.

Hello, everybody. My name is Kent Frost, and I was shown this website by Momoffduty after a brief encounter on a photography forum (which will remain nameless). I posted a video over there and she contacted me and told me I should come check this place out. So far so good! I hope to see and show off some great stuff in the coming days/weeks/months.

I have been into video editing since high school in 1996, back when it was all S-VHS and deck-to-deck cuts editing with Videonics video mixers in between. Since that time I've spent a couple years working in sales at a camera store, and then fell into a deep photography hole and kept video nearby as a quiet friend. Then, of course, when HD dSLR's came onto the scene, my love for video came back with a vengeance. I use Sony Vegas as my editing software, and 2 Canon T2i's as my photo & video cams with Sigma lenses; 17-50mm f2.8, 70-200mm f2.8, and 10-20mm f4-5.3, as well as a GoPro HD Hero 3 Black.
Dell Studio XPS 8100, Intel Core i7 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM, 64-Bit Win7. Camera gear: 2x Canon 550D's, 1x Canon EOS 6D body, Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 & 17-50mm f2.8, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 & 24-70mm f/2.8L, and two 420EX flashes.

BTW, I see in your other post that you're from Springfield. I've spent some time there over a period of several years during some motorcycle rallies at the fairgrounds. Nice country. Did have an awful storm come through one year while we were in the grandstand. Circa 2005 maybe?

Thanks guys.

Yeah, Dave, it's not too bad here. The job ops aren't the greatest right now, but it is what it is. I gotta be honest about the fairgrounds, though. I usually try to steer clear of that place. The same way I steer clear of places like the mall. LOL Doesn't surprise me about the storm though. This area gets hit with a lot of them.

Welcome Kent and glad you found your way here! :-D Good to see another Canon dslr user too. Nice set of lenses, how do you like the 17-50mm for video? I mainly use my 40mm, but would like one for the tighter shots. I have the 18-135mm, but too heavy to walk around with. The GoPro Black edition is on my wish list.

I love my Sigma lenses. :) Granted, they're no L lenses, but they certainly get the job done. I use them for shooting portraits and weddings, too.
One lens I do miss, though: My Canon EF50mm f1.8. I dropped it on the road in Arkansas last summer while my girlfriend and I were there, and the thing just exploded into a mess of springs, glass, and plastic innards. Since then, a friend has been letting me borrow her EF85mm f1.8. I love that lens, but you need a lot of room to shoot. The minimal focusing distance on it is ridiculously long.

The 1.6x crop factor on the T4i is a challenge. The 40mm is more like a 64mm. I have the 50mm f1.4 and love the quality, but distance is a challenge.

Hi Kent, Welcome :TU:

I've got a Videonics DirectED Plus in my garage that I've hung onto for some reason. They don't even sell on eBay anymore. Mine still has the original price tag $549.99 at Best Buy !!

Oh wow, I wasn't aware of such a unit from them. I bet that thing is awesome. lol

This was what we used in high school and college back in those days, the MX-1 video mixer:

I think that the mixer might have been a better option. Editing with the DirectEd Plus was a real pain.
