altering photo in Photoshop CS3

Postby hpharley90 » Tue Dec 11, 2012 5:58 pm

Is it possible to move my daughters eyes so that she is looking at camera. Or am I asking to much? To me it looks doable.
I have Photoshop CS3 and I haven't used it in more than two years or for that matter PElements and I forgot much. If it can be done can someone walk me through it so It can jog my memory?I tried using the eclipse to copy Iris. I had a shape that would work but no good. Then I was going to use clone tool for the Sclera.(white of the eye)
But I didn't get that far. Eclipse tool had me stuck.

Certainly it's possible, Richard. I took a photo of someone recently who's got a wandering eye and corrected it so that both eyes were lined up.

It's easier, of course, if you've got a similarly lit photo of her face that you can cut and paste her eyes from. That's much easier than, say, taking the existing photo and moving her pupils into position and painting white around them.

Like this?:

Here's how I did it. There are other ways.

1. Dup the background layer.
2. On the duplicate, select the eyes. Then, press ctrl+shift+i to reverse the selection.
3. Add a layer mask. The eyes will now be transparent on that layer. You can adjust
the mask to clean up the edges if necessary.
4. ctrl+click on the layer mask to reestablish the selection. Press ctrl+shift+i to change back to the eye selection.
5. Hide the layer.
6. Make the background layer the active layer and press Ctrl+j to copy the eyes to their own layer.
7. Choose the most complete iris and reconstuct a complete iris from it. Clone out the highlight and erase the other eye.
8. Set the foreground color sampling from the sclera and paint around the iris.
9. Duplicate the eye layer so you will have a left and a right eye.
10. Unhide the top layer and move the two eye layers to show through the masked out eyes in the top layer.
11. Use the burn tool on the eye layers to add some shading to the whites to give it depth. You may need to add a touch of flesh tone to the corners of the eye.
12. Add the catch light to the eyes.

Here's what the layer panel looks like:

I forgot about this part of your question. What exactly wasn't good with the ellipse tool?

The ellipse tool is fairly easy to use provided you know the keyboard modifiers -- the Alt key, the Shift key, and the Space bar.

Hold down the Alt key and the point where you click the cursor becomes the center of the ellipse and you can drag to size and shape. Hold down the Shift key and the ellipse is constrained to be a circle. Hold down the Space bar and you can drag the ellipse to a new location. And, you can use any combination at the same time. For example, Alt + Shift and you can drag a circle centered on where you clicked the cursor.

Once you release the mouse button, you get a selection. Cntl+j will copy the selected area to a new layer.

The keyboard modifiers are what I forgot. I think I tried one of them when I had the circle and I was able to grab what I call a handle and change the shape somewhat to a out of round circle.

I will print these and tack them to my shelf right in front of me for future use.

Ahh. That was my biggest problem. I forgot how to copy.
When I had the the line going around the Iris I was trying to copy by holding Cntrl + C and nothing worked and I gave up.

I will follow your procedure to correct the eyes. Hopefully tonight.
Thank you so much. :-D
Thanks
Richard

Excellent work, Bob! ::CLAP:

If I may make one suggestion, the catch light in both eyes should be in exactly the same relationship to the pupil.

You're absolutely correct. I'm usually very careful about things like that. I should have caught it.
