AVCHD to DVD

Postby hpharley90 » Sat Aug 04, 2012 12:07 pm

I just burned my first test disc. No menu or any changes at all. The clip is 00;16;10;21 long.
I picked AVCHD 1920x1080i NTSC Dolby. After about 45 minutes it only progressed to 3%. So I went to bed.
The next morn the DVD-RW tray was open. I removed the disc and put it in our brand new Sony Blu-ray player.
I was thrilled at the great quality HD was. :-D Beautiful.

I have a question now. I seem to remember reading a post here that said you can only get about 16 minutes of AVCHD on a standard DVD disc.
I got over 16 minutes of video and it used only 2.16 GB (Bit rate 15.74 Mbps) on my disc.
The DVD-R disc having a capacity of 4.71 GB I should be able to put 30 minutes of HD on my DVD.
Is that correct?
Thanks
Richard

You can only squeeze about 20 minutes of BluRay video on a DVD disc, Richard. You may be able to fit a bit more AVCHD on one. Your results, in fact, seem to indicate you can get 30-35 of AVCHD on a DVD disc.
