help file

Postby hpharley90 » Sat Dec 10, 2011 12:59 pm

In my previous version of Premiere Elements the help file was on the disc so when I hit the F1 key help would open.
I see that with PE10.0 it has to go online.
I have saved the help manual to a .pdf but I would like it to open when I hit the F1 key.
Is it possible?
Thanks
Richard

Hi Richard,
Starting in version 8 or so they put all of the help online, don't think you can change the functionality when you hit F1.

You can download help content and use it locally.

In Premiere Elements 10, press F1 to open the Adobe Community Help window. From within the ACH window, open preferences (Edit > Preferences) to download the help content and configure for local content only. On one of the tabs in preferences you can manually download the help content.

With PRE7--Adobe's best version of Premiere to date--I checked the box in the upper right-hand corner (double-click to enlarge the image). The result is that pushing F1 takes me directly to the local file that I, too, prefer.

PRE10 does not offer that option?

If not, here are two options to force the program give you the local version of Help:

If already online, temporarily disconnect yourself from the internet before pushing F1 (turn off your modem)

Alternative: Start Premiere before you turn on your modem when you begin your editing day.

I've downloaded the .pdf help file.
Are you saying that I can set it up where I can hit F1 key and it will open?
Right now I'm rendering and I can't try and follow what your saying George.
Thanks
Richard

You have to do it the way I pointed out a few posts back. When you press F1, the help content, not the PDF file, will popup. The help content will be on your computer, but you have to manually download it as I pointed out. It's not there when you install Premiere Elements 10. You download the help content from preferences in the Adobe Community Help window, after pressing F1. There is a preferences setting in the Adobe Community Help window that will turn on "local content only." So even if you are connected to the internet, only the help on your computer is accessed. If you don't have that option set, and you are connected to the internet, then help from Adobe's web site is used, otherwise help from local content on your computer is used.

The help content looks just like what's on Adobe's web site, except it's on your computer.

Thanks RJ. I finally got it. When I would type F1 key the on line help would open.
No Adobe Community Help window.
I just did a google search and found the Adobe Community Help download.
When I'm off line and I hit the F1 key the help file now opens. :tx:

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays :cm8:
Thanks
Richard
