Can PRE10 flip a graphic?

Can PRE10 flip a graphic?

Postby Ron Hunter » Mon Dec 05, 2011 3:37 pm

I'm sorry if this should go in the Photoshop Elements forum instead of in here...

I used PSE10 to remove the background from a graphic. I inserted the background-free graphic into a PSE10 project and it looks great. Now I want to flip the graphic from left to right (not rotate twice, which will cause the graphic to be upside down).

Can PRE10 flip that graphic, and if so, how? Or is there a way to do it in PSE10?

Thanks!

Yes, you can do it in both PRE10 and PSE10.

In PRE10, use the Horizontal Flip or Vertical Flip effects under the Transform group of effects.

In PSE10, from the main menu use Image > Rotate > Flip Horizontal or Flip Vertical.

Thanks a bunch! I'll try those techniques tonight.

Isn't there a Mirror Effect that does the same thing?
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

The mirror effect would be good if you want a reflection, but it won't flip the entire image.

If it helps, the image is a drawing of a submarine. I need for the image to be properly oriented, otherwise the viewer can tell the image is upside down.

The Rotate Left or Right (within Clip Properties > Motion) did not work. The image was rotated but the image was upside down.

Also, the Transform effect didn't work either. I used the "Rotation" control within the Transform effect and it worked the same as Rotate Left or Right.

I'll try the Mirror effect next.

Before Mirror effect is applied, I see the sub image with the bow (front) pointing to the right. The "sail" (conning tower) is pointing up as it should. The sub image is good.

After applying Mirror effect I see a mirrored "sail" next to the original sail, but the front end of the sub on the right has been cut off. I cannot see any other part of the mirrored sub.

Any other ideas?

OK, using the Mirror effect with "Reflection Angle"=90degrees, I can then use "Rotate Left" in "Clip Properties > Motion" to cause the sub to point to the left as desired. However, I now have an undesired reflection of the sub below the desired image.

How do I get rid of that? Do I have to use a track matte?

Never mind. I used PSE to rotate the graphic (Image > Rotate > Flip Image Horizontal). I'm good, and now I know about the Mirror and Transform effects!

You didn't use the Horizontal Flip effect like I suggested. You used the Transform effect in the Distort collection of effects. There's a separate collection called Transform that has Horizontal Flip and Vertical Flip and several other effects.
