Pinnacle Studio16 Ultimate aka Avid Studio 2

Postby Gerlinde » Wed Nov 28, 2012 1:02 pm

This Avid Studio section has not seen a lot of action, so I thought I should maybe bring it back to memory. image025

I was kind of surprised by the fact, that it is now called Pinnacle Studio 16 Ultimate and I almost missed the new release. This is what I found on Wikipedia about the recent change:
On July 2, 2012, Corel announced that it has acquired Avid's consumer video editing product lines, including Pinnacle Studio HD and Avid Studio.

And here is the link to the original article.

I just bought the new Pinnacle Studio 16 Ultimate for my new editing computer and it still looks like Avid Studio, but with new features. If you are interested here is a link to check it out.
It is still one of my favorite editors and I use it a lot. It is very stable and has a lot of neat effects. According to the product page, the new Studio 2:
it zips through projects via 64-bit, NVIDIA® CUDA™, and Intel® Quick Sync Video optimization

Product page
I have not had a chance to do a lot with the new program, since I am still busy to tweak my new computer  , but I will report back once I have done some editing.

I also acquired a new version of Magix Movie Edit Pro, but that will be a new topic under

Did you ever get an email offering a special price to upgrade to Pinnacle Studio 16 Ultimate from Avid Studio 1.0? I never did. Now that I have a better computer, I'll have to try Avid Studio 1.0 on it. It ran sluggishly on my Pentium IV.

No I never got an email for a special price. I did not even know there was a new version. I guess it had something to do with the recent changes to the company. I still get emails from Avid, but they are not selling Studio anymore.
The upgrade price for Studio 16 Ultimate is $96 when you go on the Pinnacle website. I clicked on one of the links at the Muvipix Store and got it for $89.
It always ran good on my notebook computer, but now even better on my new desktop. I got a free Class On Demand with
Studio 1, that was very helpful. They have some of the lessons on the Pinnacle site. I use the program a lot.

How do you like Windows 8?

I like it a lot better than Windows XP. Microsoft made Windows Explorer much more convenient to use. I never did upgrade to Windows Vista or Windows 7, so I can't compare it to them. After watching tutorials on Lynda.com, I have a much better handle on 8. It's like living in two worlds. I'd like to figure out how to have a clock showing while in tiles mode. With the new computer and the new operating system, everything runs so well.

I'm really eager to see how Avid Studio 1.0 performs now.

I really liked Windows 7. So, when I first saw Windows 8, I was kind of shocked by the change. But once I got more proficient navigating Windows 8, it felt very similar to Windows 7. I really like it a lot now and wish I could put it on my old XP computer. I hate XP now, it is so clunky compared to Windows 7 or 8. I will probably upgrade my Win 7 notebook to Win 8 Pro, since it is only $40 plus you get the Media Center pack for free.

I ran the upgrade adviser on my P4 computer and everything passed, except some security setting required on the motherboard need to be turned on. I' m not sure if that will be possible, I could not find it in the bios, and there are no bios updates available any more.

Let me know how Avid Studio works out for you.

OK. It's a whole different ball game now. Very responsive. Now I can use it. It could have been a contender back when.

Hi, Oh well. I checked the link you posted out just now and I really like the way the timeline order is displayed, but to my chagrin, the program wasn't listed as being compatible with Windows XP.

I'm unfortunately totally hooked on Ulead's DVD Workshop for authoring since my work is 100% standard definition VHS to DVD conversions and one company likes the menu layout graphics I use on their stuff over and over. Anyway, it only runs on XP.

Then, I tried to call Avid just to be sure, and they transferred me to Pinnacle, who ... said Corel purchased them in July and redirected me to Corel's website with no listing for Pinnacle.

The circle continues > LOL

Hi AVITRY, you could download the 30 day trial and see if it runs under Windows XP. You won't get all the extras, just the basic program.
