changes to events by adding transitions

How does VMS 10 handle the addition of transitions - does it use frames from the events or does it add frames for use during the transition. I have noticed what appears to be an offsetting of the audio tack to the right after a transition is added =brings the audio in after the transition is complete - which may push the other audio on the same track to the right ?? I reinserted the video event trying to fix the audio offset but when the transition is added it offsets again..? K

Unless you're doing a cross-fade, Vegas treats the audio and video transitions separately. In other words, you can add a video transition --- but the audio can still be a cut.

And, yes, the program does use head and tail materials (video beyond the cut on each clip) to build it's transitions. So you do need a little extra footage on each clip in order to create a smooth transition.
