Blurred Out Text Bleeding Through on Fade Out

Postby patrickblue » Wed Feb 24, 2021 12:01 am

Vegas Platinum Studio 17

The title pretty describes the problem.

I've used the Bezier Masking and Pixelate effects to blur out a section of my event. As the clip fades out the content below starts to show through negating any privacy. I know it goes by in a second but I can't take a chance someone might look at it frame by frame.

Any ideas or am I missing something obvious?

It depends on the method you used to spot blur your video.

How did you do it? There are several ways.

I used the Bezier Masking and Pixelate effects in a chain on the event. It works great unless I fade out the event. The effects are animated to come in on a certain area in another event but this event is static (the area I need to hide doesn't move) for the entire clip.

Is there some information you need that I'm missing?

I'm just not clear what this has to do with text, per the title of this post.

Are you using only one track of video to create this effect or two? As I've said, there are a number of ways to do a spot blur.

I'm using two tracks with duplicate content. The top track has the masking and pixelate applied to it so that one section of the text viewable in the image is blurred out. Both tracks are the same length and the fade ins and outs are matched for both.

I'd like to include a screencast but the information is sensitive. I'll just eliminate the fade. It will be a little jarring but it's a millisecond in a company training video.

Thanks for all your help Steve.

Your fade on the upper track is clearly fading out the effect before the rest of the video.

I'm not sure if you could tweak the fade on the upper track so that it doesn't reveal the lower track so soon, but I guess that's one option.

The other option is to do the blur effect segment as a separate video and output it as an MP4 and load it to your timeline. Then you could be sure the fade would not reveal the blurred object.

Couple of suggestions - but I've not used Movie Studio 17 (latest I have is Vegas Pro 12) so I hope they apply. You don't mention if it's a crossfade or a fade to black/white.

If it's a crossfade then if you move the track you're fading to above the current track and simply fade that in over the top

Because there's no fade on the lower track your effects will remain in place.

Alternatively if Movie Studio has a video envelope function then you could also insert a "fade to colour" envelope which will fade to a solid colour on a single track.

Steve, I used your suggestion for the second option and it worked well for me.

And Chris B, I appreciate your help as well. I may have this same issue again soon so I'll try your suggestion then and see how it works out.

Thank you both!
