Program crashing

Postby tjone3323 » Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:36 pm

Hi, fairly new to the program and still stumbling through much of it. Couple of issues I was hoping for some help with, first and foremost is the program crashing. My last project crashed the program four times when I attempted to render it. Once so badly that it froze the whole computer. I just now tried to open the project I'm working on currently and it crashed the program twice (simply closed the program)
One other issue I haven't been able to figure out (and can't find in the book) is what I did that compressed the tracks below my timeline. I did it by mistake and couldn't find how to undo it.

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

What are the complete computer specs, including hard drives (how many, what kind, what is on each, and how full)?

Which program?

Which processor do you have with how much RAM? How much free space is left on your hard drive?

What format and resolution of video are you trying to edit?

Does the program crash when you open a new project and just add a couple of photos to the timeline?

I have a new computer I bought to run this program. The processor is Intel (R) Core (TM) i5-8400 CPU2.8Ghz. Ram is 12.0 Ghz and I have 14.5 GB free on a 118GB hard drive.

That is not nearly enough free space.

Is there only one drive?

Okay. No, I have another drive and was going to start cleaning up and transfering files. Thanks for the quick response. On another subject, I recently bought a 4K camera but when I put together a video I shot with it the video quality was really bad. In fact when I transfered the video to YouTube the video quality was even worse. I used the 4K 29.5 FPS setting to render, what I'm I doing wrong?

Thanks again. I'm stumbling through this step by step.

When you say "the quality was really bad", are you talking about the clarity of the preview in the program or your final output?

Remember, a preview is just a preview. And the program automatically steps-down the resolution of the preview with it is taxing your system. You can override this, but your timeline may not be able to play at full speed.

So when you say "quality", do you mean resolution and clarity? And are you talking about preview playback or about the final video you output from your project?

It was the final video quality. It was very "pixalated" (if thats even a word). When I watched on YouTube the video was not sharp, there were blocks in the scenes that had no clarity and anywhere there was motion it got very pixalted and out of flocus. Even the DVD I made was that way.

I apologize for what are probably simple questions. I am working up through this as I can. I'm sure this has something to do with the way I'm handling the final product, the new camera I got is supposed to be much better than the one I had but the old camera has produced much better video's that the new one.

First, go to your project and click on the cog on the Preview window. What resolution and frame rate is listed for your project?

Then tell us which template you used to output your final.

Both the project settings and the output template must match your video's resolution and frame rate in order for your final video to look as good as the original.

So I went in to get the info you requested. The only place I could find the project file was in DVD architect and when I went to open it with Movie Studio it will not open it. I get a warning the an error occurred while opening one or more files, the file is an unsupported format. ??

Tom

I'm clearly not managing these files correctly.

I think you may be confused, Tom. Are you able to get me the information I asked for above?

Confused doesn't begin to describe it. I went in to open the project to get the information you needed, the project doesn't show up anywhere in the files and the only place I could find it was in DVD architect and when I tried to open it Movie Studio would not open it, It said there was an error and the project was in an unsupported format. So I can't get the info you need because the video that I created is gone, it only exists in DVD architect (apparently) and it will not open with Movie Studio. I saved it but its gone.

So how do I get what you need? And more to the point what the (blank) did I do wrong?

Don't confuse media files with project files, Tom. When you open a file in Movie Studio, you are opening a project file. When you add media to a a project, you are adding video, audio, stills. etc. Project files may not show up with you're browsing from Add Media and media files may not show up when you're using the Open command.

Look for your files with the Windows File Browser. That way you'll see all of the files.
