Dual Fish Eye Stitching & 360 Stabilization effects missing

Postby NeilBreakwell » Sun May 05, 2019 8:45 am

Hi, All -

I hope that I'm not breaking any forum rules by posting this issue twice, but I previously started talking about it under a different topic, so there may be someone out there who knows the answer, but hasn't seen this post.

The problem concerns editing of 360 degree video in VMSP16 ..

I watched Steve's excellent video on the subject here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfY9_AcETQk

This shows the following video effects:
video.jpg

However, my installation (VMSP16 build 89, updated to build 109) appears to be missing the 360 degree video effects, ie the "VEGAS Dual Fish Eye Stitching" effect and the "VEGAS 360 Stabilization" effect:

Anyone else had this issue or know a work-around/solution ?
Interestingly, the "VEGAS Tiny Planet" effect DOES exist, which is also an effect related to 360 degree video, I believe.

I have raised a ticket with Magix support, but no response as of yet.

best regards
- Neil

Update -

Well, Magix replied and told me to switch off the 360 preview before adjusting the settings in the effect.
They seem to have misunderstood that the effect is entirely missing from the "chooser". I wrote back to clarify, so let's see if they can suggest anything else.

I am wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that I purchased the package on DVD rather than downloading and maybe the DVD version was missing some of the effects (perhaps they were included after the DVDs were made). Just a thought. I wonder if there is any way of just downloading these missing effects ?

If the DVD version would be the cause I would think that downloading build #109 would have fixed the issue.
The only mention I've found that comments on the 360º Stabilizer was in the Magix VMS thread I linked to in your other thread
https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/ ... /#ca716148
No reason why it would be unavailable was given in that comment either.

Now I am even more confused by this reply from Magix, especially as you guys can access these effects:

Hello

Thank you for your message.

This is a known issue which will be resolved in a future application update. Thank you for reporting this issue.

Maybe completely uninstalling the program the download a fresh version from the magix site might fix the issue??

Worth a try for sure, as nothing to lose and I don't think Magix are going to offer any more help.

Their latest response:
"Its not an issue that is happening to everyone. Most users are able to access and use the effects as intended."

Not sure what makes me different to "most users" ?!

I don't think they have a clue what the problem is, but as 360 editing was one of my main reasons for purchasing the package, I reckon I will ask for a refund if a fresh install doesn't work.

Thanks

Maybe there was something in one of the builds between 89-109 that is missing which is causing you headaches. A complete un-install then reinstall the latest version might help do the trick. Fingers crossed.

+1 to the suggestion by sidd finch.
Check also the system requirements here in your C:\Program Files\VEGAS\Movie Studio Platinum 16.0\readme

I'm also wondering if this may or may not have to do with the several issues you mentioned in the other thread
such as with activation, Visual C++ redistributable, .Net Framework, and NB Transitions folder missing from the Plug-In Chooser.

OK - back from my vacation, so decided to try complete re-install.

Here's what happened:

1. restored image of hard drive (taken before VMSP16 installed) to brand new drive
2. installed new hard drive.
3. tried to install version of VMSP16 downloaded from site (instead of version from DVD)

... same issue as originally seen
error.jpg

4. installed Visual C++ Redistributable 2017
5. tried again to install version of VMSP16 downloaded from site
6. install successful, BUT ...

just the same as before ... NO dual fish eye stitching effect

I guess the very short term is to use the free GoPro Fusion app to do the stitching and at least you then have some footage to work with.

Thanks for all the suggestions - it is much appreciated.

@Sidd ... I wasn't aware of that package ... downloaded it to try, but discovered that it only works with Windows 10 (tried on Windows 7 64bit, but no-go)

Decided to contact Magix again and try to get a refund. Given up trying to resolve the issue :(
Their last response was along the lines of "It is a known issue, but most people do not have a problem" (paraphrasing). Don't know if they think that justifies them selling a product which does not do what it claims to.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Just to rule out your PC configuration still with this issue, I don't recall if you ever mentioned checking the System requirements (incl. Supported GPUs) or the Readme file.

The readme file/Release notes should be here C:\Program Files\VEGAS\Movie Studio Platinum 16.0\readme

vk makes a good suggestion. Because, if you're using Windows 7 or a 32-bit operating system, that alone could explain it.

Thanks, guys. I am using Win7 but 64-bit, which Magix site claims is supported. All other specifications from their site are met too.

They have plain refused to give a refund because I did not request it within 14 days of the order ! It took longer than 14 days to even get it to install (was missing something called the "Visual C++ Redistributable", whatever that means) and then longer still to determine that it does not do what it claims.

Don't think I will be writing any good reviews of the product any time soon.
