Movie Studio 14 update

Postby Steve Grisetti » Fri Jan 27, 2017 8:53 am

As fans of Vegas and Movie Studio know, last year Sony sold their video editing and disc production software line to the German company Magix. A new version (version 14) of Vegas Pro was released last year with the promise of releasing a long-awaited version 14 of Movie Studio (now called Vegas Movie Studio) in February 2017 or thereabouts.

Recently, Magix has released a sort-of version 14. You can find a link to it below. In reality, version 14 has still not been released. However, if you buy the upgrade at the special price of $59.95 before February 2, you will be automatically upgraded at no additional cost when the new version is released. (The standard upgrade price will be $79.95.)

Meantime, if you have Sony Movie Studio 13, you can switch over to the Magix Vegas Movie Studio at no charge by downloading it from this page. Your Sony serial number will still apply. The Magix version 13 is virtually identical except for some re-branding.

And, once Vegas Movie Studio 14 Platinum is released, we'll be follow its released with a new Muvipix Guide.

The Movie Studio Platinum 13 + 14 offer, which Steve mentions in the 2nd paragraph above, is indeed a bargain for those who have only MSP 12 or an earlier version. As mentioned, you will receive a link to the upgrade after its release. Current (Sony) V 13 owners like myself will most likely wait and see which new features the new version will have. New upgraders/ users have the advantage of getting v 13 and going back to it, if they're not comfortable with new features of v 14 such as e.g. the promised "enhanced (darker?) new interface." Note that there's an option to upgrade to MS 14 Suite as well, click Overview and on the opening page there's a link (see blue line) to the Suite offer. Don't pay too much attention to the basic Movie Studio offer if you come across that.

There are quite a few Sony MSP 13 build 955 users, who have not made the transition to the Magix rebranded builds, the same applies to Sony Vegas Pro 13 build 453 users. Some users report having problems with Magix builds, esp. with the early ones. Also, MAGIX has dropped the 32-bit version of the Studio line altogether, only Sony builds have that option. Interestingly, probably to help us not to confuse ex-SCS apps with "old" Magix video products. MAGIX brought "Vegas" back to Movie Studios after SCS dropped it from the titles of their versions of 12 and 13. Still, it does "help" newer users to continue confusing VPro with the more consumer-oriented MS(P)s. Also please remember that Movie Studio and Movie Studio Platinum are different programs and the features are not the same by far.

Here's a first-look teaser for Vegas Movie Studio 14, still due to be released in late February.

Magix has promised an improved interface -- which hopefully won't take it too far from the look and feel of Vegas Pro, which has always been one of Movie Studio's biggest assets.

Also, the program promises to include a multi-camera editor, which is a really big plus for a consumer editor!

Here is the latest on Vegas Movie Studio 14 -- though it's still just a teaser. Not even a sneak peek at the interface, and no specific release date yet mentioned.

Upgraded today for the Platimum version for $49.99. I consider that a good deal. If you want the actual CD it will cost $5.00 more for shipping.
