Titles and Text in Video Media Generator

Postby DUBHAMILTON » Sat Aug 23, 2014 6:40 pm

First time to post, so I hope I am in the right place. I have a question about animation of text selected in Video Media Generator in Movie Studio Platinum 13.
When I select something like scroll where text comes in from the left, I cannot figure how to slow up or speed up the rate it comes in. No matter what I do the rate remains the same. I tried changing the duration of the event, but the rate remained the sane and the text scrolling in just repeated several times.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

I was refurring to the template titled Scroll' under "Titles and Text" . The problem seems to exist with most of the selections available under the Titles and Text" section.

Changing the duration of the event will change the speed of the scroll. But you must change the duration correctly. You can't just extend the length of the event on the timeline. As I show you in the book, you must either:

1) Change the Duration numbers manually in the Video Media Generator option panel or

2) Stretch the length of the event on the timeline and then, int he Video Media Generators option panel, click the Match Event Length button.

I've tried it and, extending the duration of the title to 20 seconds makes the animation run half the speed of a 10 second title -- and cutting it to 5 seconds makes the animation run twice as fast.

Steve's advice will of course work up to 4x and 1/4x. When you're using the Titles&Text Scroll preset, you'll also need to Trim Start/End to get the scroll you want.
If you need scrolling text, I'd suggest you use the (Legacy) Text plug-in. I use the following workflow, often quoted on the forums.
Create a selection area on the timeline, Right-click the track in that selection area, and choose to add your generated media that way. Then it will match the length of the selection area.
Use the "Replace Plug-in" button (to Legacy Text) if necessary.
Using the basic Titler, enter all your text on a single line.
Adjust font type, size & colour accordingly.
*deleted line*
Click on the Placement tab.
Move the text to the right using either the hand in the text box or by entering a value in the "X" box.
This creates a keyframe at the beginning.
Take note of the values in both the "X" and "Y" boxes.
Click Animate and add a keyframe to the end of the timeline.
Enter the values noted previously in the "X" & "Y" boxes but change the "X" value to a negative number.
For example, if "X" was set to "10" on the first keyframe, make sure it's now set to "-10".
Also, make sure the "Y" values are identical or you'll see the text float up and/or down.
Play it to make sure your length is correct.
If not, adjust it accordingly and remember to change the position of the last keyframe.

Ok. this is helping some. As you can already tell, this is new for me.
Vkmast, I need some help identifying the " length" box you mention. I cannot find it labeled anywhere and I cannot find it in the muvipix.com book for Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13 .

I've edited my post (deleted the line Figure out how long you want the scroll to take and enter this value in the "Length" box.).
You don't change the length/duration if you Create a selection area on the timeline, Right-click the track in that selection area, and choose to add your generated media that way. Then it will match the length of the selection area.
The keyframe line also edited to make it clearer.
