Transitions Window issue

Postby BuddyB » Sat May 11, 2013 6:50 pm

I've looked in the book and read the material on application of transitions for Sony HD Platinum 10. It will not allow me to drag it to a cut on the timeline. All the transitions show and they'll preview, but I can't get them into the movie from the Transition window. Must be something I've overlooked. I've checked the Sony install disk, but didn't see a clue one there. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I seem to remember that in Steve's book it mentions you should overlap the events a little. Then apply the transition to that overlapped area. Maybe Steve will chime in here to correct me if I am wrong.

This is correct. Vegas and Premier do this opposite ways round. Vegas overlaps footage to make transitions whereas premier uses trimmed sections of footage. Overlapping events in Vegas will automatically apply a crossfade and the length of the overlap is the length of the transition.

Right clicking this transition will allow you to change the "shape" of the fade under the fade type setting and clicking on the little double line symbol will allow you to change the properties of the fade including in some cases keyframing properties of the transition as it progresses (for example you can change the angle of the linear fade as it fades....) :-8

Thanks for the input. I don't like this approach to transitions, but will live with it. I may get better at applying as time goes on.
