Please guide me to find my way for Vegas Pro 12 to make tuts

Postby MGadAllah » Tue Dec 25, 2012 11:38 am

Hello
My dear valuable MuviPix members
It has been a while since last time I was here.
As you know the current time in Egypt is very busy with politics and many other factors.
I am trying to be positive and help myself and my people by spreading the word for what to do and what to do not to make Egypt a better place.
I've created a new YouTube channel dedicated for this purpose and started to make some small videos like these:

After goggling for a while for what could be the most suitable software to be used as I will create short clips from scratch I've found many recommending using Vegas instead of my favorite application adobe premiere.

I've played a bit with Vegas and got a great discount for the latest version through our governmental work agency.

So please help me and advise for what could be the best starting point!?

Please advise and help and do I need to buy any plugins or just the default ones are good enough?

Thanks a lot
Mohamed

Sony has a manual you can download. The help feature in Vegas is also very good. Youtube has lots of tutorials also. Just do a google search for 'Vegas Pro 12 Tutorials'. And if you have any other questions then the experts here will help you with specific problems or questions you might have.

Mohamed, you should also watch our Basic Training tutorials for Vegas Movie Studio. The interface is almost identical to Vegas Pro's, and most of the basic functions are identical.

You can find the 8 part Basic Training tutorials along the left side of this page.

I started out using Premiere Elements and Premiere Pro and still use both extensively. However I have moved from using Premiere Pro as my primary editor to Vegas Pro and currently use Vegas Pro 12. The way they do simple things such as pan and zooming is totally different and you may have problems getting used to Vegas Pro if you are competent in Premiere. That said it is worth perservering as Vegas is a powerful editor and has the advantage over Premiere that it can do 3d animation that would normally require After Effects if you were using Premiere.

Actually I used to hate (yes HATE) Vegas because I was not understanding how to deal with it, but now I've found it more easier then I thought and thanks to people here and YouTube tutorials.
The most beautiful thing I found in Vegas and I did not found in premiere (maybe because of my ignorance of premiere) that I can make video clip from no voice and use media generator in Vegas while I can not make such a thing in premiere.

Steve, I should say it clearly that I owe you a lot :)
I will listen to your advise :)

One last thing: Do I need to download the full manual of the Vegas and go through it one by one ? or not recommended to do so!?

-later edit-
Please if I want to search for YouTube tutorials what is the recommended search key words to be used?

The Vegas manual should not take up too much space on your computer. I think you should download it. It's nice to have it when you need it!

That is the problem with searching for anything on Youtube. Only advice I can give is to be more specific in your search terms. I usually search on "Sony Vegas Pro"... "Pro" to differentiate from the "Studio" version and then add the specific item I am searching for... for example "Masking" or "Color Match".

For what it's worth, my next teaching project for Lynda.com is a course on using Vegas Pro 12. It should be finished and available at http://Lynda.com in April.

In the meantime, Lynda.com currently has a course on Vegas Pro 6 on their site. The interface is a bit different, but the program functions the same. You may find it helpful.

You can get to Lynda.com by clicking on the ad along the left panel on this forum. They do offer a 1-week free trial membership, if you'd like to see if it's what you're looking for.

That's definitely true. The professional versions of both products are powerful full function editors, but the way you do things in them is different. Some people find Vegas more intuitive while others, myself included, find Premiere more intuitive. Both require time and effort to learn.
