Slideshows and bins

Postby Uncle Ben » Thu Oct 11, 2012 8:23 am

I'm new at this, so humour me a little...

I'm trying to understand the usefulness of the media bins (Sony MS Platinum 12 suite.) I can use the media bins to sort and organize all the media files I intend to use for the project. But if I do a slideshow, using the Insert/Slideshow wizard, the dedicated bin I have for photos becomes redundant as I have to import them all again. Is that correct or am I missing something?

Also, I can do slideshows in both DVD Architect and Movie Studio; however, the former does not allow for any transitions and effects, while MS has all the goodies. Yes?

Thank you for your help.

The slideshow creator in Vegas Movie Studio has lots of great features for customizing your slideshow, Ben, including an option for creating automatic pans & zooms around the photos. But, yes, in order to use it you do have to re-import whatever photos you're going to use in it.

Media Bins are great if you're using more than, say, a dozen video clips in your video project. So you may not need them if you're only working with short videos. But my video projects can include dozens of video clips! Being able to organize them into bins and sub-biins so that I can quickly locate one particular clip makes the work much easier!

@Steve - regarding the "pans and zooms" - am I right in saying that these features are only available when creting a slideshow "manually" as opposed to using the Insert Slideshow wizzard.

No. They're an option in the slideshow creator wizard.

Under the Settings tab, check out the Effects drop-down menu. Look for Fades with Pan and Zoom.

(Just another cool tip from my book.)

Thank you Steve.

As for the book, I understand that you're working on a new edition that will cover all the components of the Platinum Suite 12, is that correct? Unless you advise me otherwise, I'd rather wait and buy the one book, instead of buying two books that won't cover all of the features that I currently have.

Yes, there will be a book -- but not until later this winter, unfortunately.

But I'm looking forward to researching some of the new features in 12!

Do you intend to cover all the components in the Suite (MSP12, DVDA5 and SoundForge)?

We already have a book on DVD Architect Studio 5.

But at this time we have no plans to develop a book on SoundForge. We've kind of got our hands full working with video programs right now! ;)
