Installing Vegas Movie Studio 16 Platinum on new Hard Disk

Postby NeilBreakwell » Thu Feb 03, 2022 4:17 pm

I have Vegas Movie Studio Platinum v16 but I have recently had to replace the hard drive in my computer.

I restored the entire system (Windows 7) with all applications and data to the new drive from an image, but unfortunately, when I now try to launch the VMS Platinum package, the following message appears:
"It is possible that your system's hardware has changed.

Your licence needs to be checked if you want to carry on using your
program without any restrictions. This should solve the problem. If
the problem persists, get help from the customer support website.

Your computer must be able to connect to the internet to do so."

clicking on the "check licence now" button, the following message appears, even if I switch off the firewall (internet connection is good for other applications, but VMS reports that it is unable to establish a connection to check the licence).
"An online connection could not be established. Please make sure
your computer is correctly connected to the internet. A firewall may
also be blocking access.

If the problem continues, you can try the following: reset your
Internet settings and then click 'Activate & register immediately online' again."

(there is no button with this marking to click)

I have configured my new drive as a dual-boot system with Windows 7 on one partition and Windows 10 on a second partition - ideally, I would like to install the package on both partitions, but I am unsure if this is permitted with a single licence even if both systems are on the same computer/hard drive. If I have to chose, then I would like to re-install it on the Windows 10 partition (was running under windows 7 on the original drive) but either would be acceptable. However, right now, I am unable to run the package at all.

I would try installing it on the Windows 10 partition and see if you can get it to activate there.

Thanks, Peru -
I tried your suggestion and it installs fine on the Windows 10 partition. In the meantime, I also contacted Magix Support and they came back with some suggestions, which I tried without success:

So, I have what I need - a working system just by doing a fresh install on the Windows 10 partition. I even tried uninstalling the Windows 7 installation and re-installing from scratch, but to no avail ..same message about being unable to establish a connection.

thanks, guys :)

This is for Adobe applications, but it may apply in your case:

Thanks again .. I have fixed it ..
it was a certificate error.

Corrected it (eventually) as shown here:

Once I downloaded this ISRG Root X1 certificate, all was good - it allowed me to "activate" up to two "devices" - it sees the two partitions on my PC as different devices, so I was able to "deactivate" the old drive and activate both partitions on the new drive.

thanks again
