Exporting from Pre El 3 to use in DVDAS

Postby Peru » Wed Jul 15, 2009 7:37 am

Wasn't sure whether to post here or in Pre El 3, but:

In preparing a DV-AVI export from Pre El 3 to use in DVDAS, there is an option to recompress or not recompress. Which should I use?

Would I use a different option if not exporting fo use in DVDAS? :-k

In all honesty, it makes no real difference. You won't get a discernible quality difference in your AVI output.

And DVD Architect will do a great, fast job transcoding it to your DVD!

Thanks, Steve.

By the way, your DVDAS book is a great help. I'm used to reading a book cover to cover, but have not had time yet, so I've been "cherry picking" topics as I need them.
It has been working out well this way. :TU:

It may just be me, but I think the DVD I made was sharper when DVDDAS encoded my movie than I get with PRE.
It could be the bitrate difference. I think DVDAS allows you to select a higher bit rate that PRE allows.

DVDAS uses MPEG two-pass encoding. If you are using only one-pass encoding when exporting from Premiere Elements, that could account for some of the quality difference.
