DVD Architect Pro 6.0

Postby BobH » Fri Oct 18, 2013 7:07 am

Hi everyone. I use Movie Studio Platinum 12 suite and so have DVD Architect Studio 5.0. Do I now see that Sony are selling the pro version of DVD Architect separate from Vegas Pro, as before this was not the case. Movie Studio really does all I need in terms of editing, but I do find DVD Architect Studio 5.0 a little limiting although it is a fine program. Presumably there is no reason why I cant use DVD Architect Pro 6.0 to author my Bluray discs having used Movie Studio to edit. Am I missing something here?

Thanks

Nope. The disc-ready files that Movie Studio outputs can be used in either the Studio or Pro versions of DVD Architect.

Although DVD Arch Studio 5 is pretty full-featured. What limitation are you running up against?

DVD Arch Pro 5 (and 6 -- which is pretty much the same program) is virtually identical to DVD Arch Studio in many ways. It allows for some high-level scripting and menu animation that Studio does not. And it can create BluRay discs with 5.1 audio. But the interfaces are almost identical. (I'm working on a lynda.com course now on DVD Architect Pro, BTW.)

It's none of my business, of course. But, before you invest $200 in the Pro version, you might want to make sure that the features you want aren't already available in the Studio version.

Hi Steve, thanks for the prompt reply. Some menu animation etc would be nice but I guess my main limitation is not being able to use subtitles. If there is a simple way I could do this then I guess I would be happy.

You're right. If you want optional subtitles and alternate audio tracks (ie, other languages, commentary track), you will need the Pro version.

Note that some users are having problems with DVD Arch Pro 6. Lots of comments on other forums about that. Most of the experts on those forums say to use DVD Arch Pro 5. But you could always try Ver 6 and see if it works on your system.

You're right. DVD Arch 6 is a free upgrade from DVD Arch 5 -- though I don't see any benefit in upgrading. I haven't been able to find anything version 6 can do that version 5 couldn't. Though, for what it's worth, even if you create a .dar project file in version 6, if you decide to go back to 5, you'll be able to open that .dar in version 5 or 6.

Thank you Steve and others for your helpful comments. If there is a trial version of DVDA Pro 6.0 then I will give it a go.

And be sure to watch for my class on lynda.com! I'll be recording it next month and it should be available before the end of the year.

I'll be covering how to add alternative audio tracks and optional subtitles.

I will do that Steve. Perhaps you can post when it finally goes live.

Thanks again

Of course!

But meantime you might find our free 3-part Basic Training for DVD Architect Studio tutorial series worth checking out.
