Once again, Robert, you've taken me to school. I had no idea!

In fact, now that I've researched it, I've found that you can create a 1280x720 BluRay in DVD Architect Studio.

Just go to the File menu and select Properties. On the Properties panel, set Disc Format to BluRay, then select 1280x720 as the resolution. You can even set the Frame Rate to a variety of progressive rates.

Will these play on any BluRay player, Robert? Or will they play on computers only?

Steve,

I created a BD 1280x720p 24fps with menu in DVDA 5.2 and was able to play it back on TV with a Sony Blu-ray player.

I also created a Blu-ray movie with menu on DVD 1280x720p 24fps in DVDA 5.0 and that played back on TV with a Sony Blu-ray player. You can't create a Blu-ray movie on DVD in DVDA 5.2. DVDA has never created a compliant AVCHD(tm), just a Blu-ray movie on DVD (BD-5 and BD-9) that some players will show as being AVCHD. Some companies do have video editors that will burn compliant AVCHD(tm).

More great research, Robert! Thank you.

Is there any advantage to creating a 1280x720 rather than a 1920x1080 BluRay? All you're doing is just creating a lower-resolution BluRay, right?

Steve,

If your video is already in one of the supported formats, such as 1280x720, then rendering may not be necessary when authoring a BD. Some may prefer the 60/50 fps progressive frame rate that 1280x720 format has always supported, whereas 1920x1080 has had a 24fps progressive limit. Although some camcorders can crank out 1920x1080 60/50fps progressive, BD authoring apps that support that format are hard to find.
