Can't view video

Can't view videoI just bought PE9 and your Guide. I have Windows Vista. I followed the instructions and downloaded 2 short videos. I have worked on them in sceneline, added a title and some transitions. I cannot get anything more than a still image in preview or the monitor. The sound plays just fine. What am I failing to do? Thank you for your help.
Re: Can't view videoA big welcome to Muvipix.
What type of video are you using in your project, or where did you source the video?
Re: Can't view videoWelcome to Muvipix.
The sceneline view is great if you want to put something together quickly with minimal editing but timeline view is the way to go. It won't solve this problem but what it does is open up the power of PrEl. Re: Can't view videoI have been reading the hints to get a faster computer at the back of the book and I think my problem lies there. My video came from a Sony handycam AVCHD and I did not convert it into DV-AVI. I will clean up my computer and convert the video and go from there.
Thanks for the responses.
Re: Can't view videoYou should be able to edit AVCHD without converting it, grammy -- if your computer has the horsepower.
As we say in the book, it usually takes a quad-core computer with a good ram load to handle AVCHD. It's also important that you have latest version of Quicktime and that, when you created your project, you selected the correct AVCHD project preset. How fast is your computer's processor? And which settings did you select when you created your Premiere Elements project? HP Envy with 2.9/4.4 ghz i7-10700 and 16 gig of RAM running Windows 11 Pro
Re: Can't view videoThank you Steve for your response. I am learning a whole lot about my computer working through this. ;o)
I have a Dell Inspiron 530S CPU 440@ 2.00 GHz Ram 1.00 GB System 32-bit Processor Speed 1995 MHz (base score 3.4 not designed for gaming obviously) I have Quicktime 7.6.9 I shot the video on a Sony HDR-CX150 Full HD1080. I used project setting NTSC-AVCHD-HD 1080i30 I checked my available memory when I had Safari and Premiere Elements open at the same time - I was using 89% Is it time to buy more memory or a new computer? I currently have Photoshop Elements 4 but purchased Elements 9 and would like to start using it. I have followed a lot of your suggestions to clean up the computer - thanks for those.
Re: Can't view videoThis is another of those multi-format camcorders that shoots in a number quality levels and resolutions. I'm hoping you folks will do some experimenting for us and report how the program performs with each of those formats.
But in FX and FH quality, you should get an AVCHD that should edit in Premiere Elements if you're using the AVCHD Stereo project preset. Is that what you're using? I'd certainly be interested in hearing how well Premiere Elements edits video shot in standard def on this camcorder if you're using one of the Hard Drive Camcorder presets. The best indicator is to place your clips on the timeline. If you don't see any red lines above your clips on the timeline, you've got an ideal match between source video and project settings. Meantime, is this your computer? http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/dell-i ... 83653.html If so, the specs list it as running a 2 ghz Celeron processor which, if that's the case, would unfortunately not be even remotely up to spec for editing any form of video, particularly hi-def -- even with double the RAM. Did I pull up the right spec sheet? You can tell by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties. This should show your processor speed and RAM load. Re: Can't view videoMy computer looks like that but is the 530 S model. It is powered by the Celeron 440 @ 2.00 ghz.
Never intended to get into video editing when I got it from my son. So I will rethink how to proceed and get back to you with some reports when I actually have some videos made. Thank you for your help. It saved me a lot of time and frustration. Best regards, Jan
Re: Can't view videoHi Jan,
That is definitely not a video editing computer, just not nearly enough power. The Celeron processor is not made to work that hard. In most cases a dual core processor is fine to work with video, but for AVCHD and high definition it is best to have a nice shiny new quad core to work with Welcome to Muvipix 1. Re: Can't view video Yup. Time for a new PC. Have a look here for some guidance.
