Can't View File In Monitor Window on PE9

Postby zimmedl+1 » Thu Feb 17, 2011 1:28 pm

I am new to PE9 and have a question. Very early in my learning process but I have downloaded some free files avi/wmv from this site. I bring them into my media in PE9. I drag them onto the sceneline and everythng is fine. I can see the image in the sceneline, monitor window and the Tasks window. I can even get the file to play in the tasks window. But when I play the actual file in the timeline, the monitor window turns white and will not show anything when it is playing. Hope this makes sense, what am I doing wrong?

Hi, Denny. Welcome to Muvipix!

Your problem could have to do with the files themselves -- since you don't say where they originated.

But most likely it's a corrupted BadDriver file.

First, ensure you do have the latest driver from the nVidia or ATI web site.

Then go to Premiere Elements Help/Check for Updates to ensure you have version 9.01.

Then, in XP, go to C:/DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS/ALL USERS/APPLICATION DATA/ADOBE/PREMIERE ELEMENTS/9.0 and remove or rename the file BadDrivers.txt.

In Windows 7, go to C:/Program Data/Adobe/Premiere Elements/9.0 and remove or rename the file BadDrivers.txt. (You may need to first go to Start/Control Panel/Folder Options/View and, under Hidden Files and Folders, select the option to Show Hidden Files, Folders and Drives.)

When you next launch Premiere Elements, the file will be recreated and your problem will likely go away.

Thanks for your quick replies. Well the problem, whatever it was, fixed itself once that I closed the project and then reopened it. Not sure what happened but most likely was something stupid that I did. I still can't believe how foreign all of this seems even after being a fairly good user of Photoshop CS5. This is so totally different. I just hope I have the horses now on my computer to make a video. I know that I am on the verge of disaster here with all the video stuff. I am still using Windows XP as well which probably does not help matters.
Thanks again.
