I wonder if this means there's going to be a version 9 of PE and PSE?

All that's to be known at this point is on the links Chuck posted.

But we promise you that, as soon as the software is officially released, we'll be the first on the web with a thorough discussion of the new features!

They always overestimate a bit.

In the past the product shipped by early October.

That would be good. In the past hasn't the price on the PE/PRE package usually eventually come down to about $100?

It's getting to the point where the 64 bit version of Win 7 is what comes installed on most new systems. Aside from the operating system itself I don't have any apps that take advantage of it. Maybe I'm overly optimistic about the advantages that would be had, but I'd really be interested in knowing how a 64 bit version of PRE would perform.

I'm sure that's on the horizon, Dave. But, for now, the Elements programs are still 32-bit.

As with previous versions, can I leave V7 intact and install V9 for trial? If I use a project created in V7 in V9 will it want to convert it to a format that will only be usable in V9?

You can leave prior versions installed without any problems. Make copies of your projects just in case you need to open them again in version 7. I have opened v7 projects in version 9 and then opened v9 projects in v7 without problems, not sure if everyone will have the same results. Make copies to be safe ;)

Don't know how the installation will affect your existing organizer, maybe someone else knows.

Thanks Chuck. So it sounds like the file formats may be identical. But I'll be sure to have backups. (I always do anyway.)

That automatic timeline thing sounds really helpful to new users. I don't know if I care for them removing the bright colored tabs, I thought those were pretty nice. Good to hear that improved performance.
I wish I were creative enough to write something witty here.
